Drawing Practice No.3: Building a combination of objects with Lines and Shapes - Work Desk

Welcome, everyone! I’m so glad you’re here today. If you’ve ever wanted to improve your drawing skills and tackle something a bit more complex, you’re in the right place. Today, we’re going to explore how to draw your own work table, and I promise it’s going to be both fun and rewarding. So, let’s dive in!

Step 1: See Shapes, Not Objects First, take a moment to really look at your desk. What do you see? It’s not just a flat surface; it’s a collection of simple shapes and angles waiting to be captured on paper. Start by identifying the largest shape—the table itself. Most likely, it’s a rectangle or a square. Lightly sketch this foundational shape. Now, look at the objects on top: Does that framed picture look like a combination of a square and a rectangle? Is your pencil holder a cylinder? (Maybe even a double cylinder!) Break every item down into its simplest geometric form.

Step 2: Play with Perspective and Depth Next, let’s focus on perspective. Take a moment to observe how your computer sits on the table. Is it more rectangular, or does it have rounded edges? Notice the angles and try to figure out the distance between the objects. This is where you can really start to play with depth and make your drawing look three-dimensional.

Step 3: Confidence and Details Once you’ve completed a light construction sketch, it’s time to bring your drawing to life with darker, more confident lines. Now is the time for adding details—the specific edges, shadows, and textures of your objects.

If you notice any mistakes, don’t worry! That’s a crucial part of the process. You can always adjust and refine your work as you go along. Conclusion Remember, drawing is about practice and patience. Each line you draw brings you one step closer to capturing your unique perspective. Thank you for joining me today! I hope you feel inspired to create your own masterpiece of your workspace.
